Dukesy Family Beach Brunch at West 14th – Review…

Last Friday we headed to the Palm to take advantage of the beautiful winter weather in Dubai, and enjoyed West 14th’s Dukesy Family Brunch! Having already heard lots about the activities the brunch offered, we came prepared with Master Z’s swim wear, but since we arrived around 2 pm after completing Jummah prayers, we were ravenous, and dived straight into the food first.

With outdoor seating, shaded with umbrellas, and a live cooking station just next to us, our tummies were in for a treat. The live cooking station included barbecued fish, chicken, lamb and beef. Accompanying this were live pasta station, as well as a Shawarma stand. Who doesn’t love Shawarma in Dubai, and having tried and tested it, I will tell you it was delicious!

There were also a handful of other hot dishes including Cajun Roasted Potatoes and delicious flavoured rice. I liked that there weren’t a million dishes to choose from, instead there were a handful quality dishes that filled the appetite.

Starters included plenty of salads and breads. The Chief Baker explained about the freshly baked goods and how he had experimented with Sumac (the red coloured spice commonly used in Arabic cooking) to make Sumac Rolls.

The desserts were a sweet sight to see as well as to taste. The selection included the usual favourites such as chocolate cakes, flavoured mousses and sponge cakes.

What I loved was that the kids had their own special place to enjoy the brunch, with mini seating, as well as bean bags facing the large movie projector. Unfortunately, due to the sun rays, the movie on the projector screen wasn’t showing up too clearly, so perhaps they need to change the positioning of this.

As well as a chocolate fountain surrounded by marshmallows and gummy bears, the child friendly menu included chips, pizza and sliders too.

My favourite, as well as all the other kids, was the live pancake station. But there were no mere normal pancakes being cooked here. You could choose from an assortment of colours, flavours, toppings, and create whatever you wanted! A great initiative to get the little ones eating for sure, as children were flocking to eat rainbows, butterflies and car shaped pancakes. Master Z himself enjoyed a huge colourful car shaped pancake.

After having our tummies filled, and energy regained, we decided to explore our surroundings. The big bouncy castle was not to be missed, and Master Z had a grand time on it.

Once he was all jumped out, I took him in to see the Kids Club and the shallow Toddler Pool just outside, which is shaded too. Tempted by the sight of the pool, I got Master Z changed into his swim wear and we headed down to the beach for some fun. On the way we passed by the Lazy River, which looked AMAZING! It is such a picturesque spot, and the kids seemed to be really enjoying it.

The majority of guests were enjoying sunbathing by the Infinity pool, and by the time we reached there, it was a pretty crowded spot, though still very beautiful to look at. We decided to head to a quieter spot by the beach, since myself and Mr Z didn’t have our swim wear, so that Master Z could still enjoy playing in the water safely.

Upon reaching the beach, Master Z was let loose, and plenty of fun ensued. We made sandcastles, water tunnels, drew on the sand and then did it all over again. The weather was beautiful and the skyline was even more breathtaking. I can imagine it looks even more gorgeous as dusk falls and the city lights switch on.

After getting soaked and being covered in sand, we headed back to the restaurant and ended our day watching Master Z play on the swings and slides in the outdoor play area, next to the Lazy River. I loved that the vibes were so chilled, and it was such a relaxing day over all. It helped that there were no tantrums or melt down thanks to the wide range of activities to keep Master Z busy.

The views are stunning, and you will be sure to leave feeling very relaxed. The major bonus is of course that the kids will fall asleep at the drop of a hat after a full day of exciting activities, and what more does a parent want than SLEEP!
