COÉGA Sunwear – Fit for the whole Family…

At the beach or at the pool, if there are people around, you are sure to spot someone wearing COÉGA Sunwear. The popular brand, home-grown in the UAE, is a growing swimwear company that manufactures UV 50+ protective swimwear that anyone can wear – from babies to ladies!

Before I delve into my own experience, let me share with you a little more about the brand itself.

Founder & CEO – Maureen Hall:

Maureen Hall moved from Canada to the UAE 15 years ago and loved Dubai’s outdoor lifestyle.  She very quickly realised that she needed to protect her family from the sun and at that time there was limited swimwear on the market. So she decided to take matters into her own hands and what she couldn’t find in the stores, she set about to make herself.  First on the list was something to protect her children’s feet from the hot sand and slippery pool decks and COÉGA’s now famous pool shoe was born.  She continued to make stylish and comfortable suits and after having many compliments she decided to transform her love of sewing into a business and COÉGA Sunwear began.

Quality:

COÉGA Sunwear’s core value is to make UV protective Sunwear for the whole family and the suits are made to last.  All COÉGA suits are made from European fabric that is UV50+ and is chlorine and salt water resistant – perfect for the Dubai climate!  COÉGA Sunwear is manufactured right here in Jebel Ali which is not only good for the local economy but also allows for stringent quality control to ensure only the best products make it to the stores.

Supporting the community:

COÉGA is proud to keep it local by sponsoring various local sports teams and grassroots organisations including the Dubai Gazelle’s women’s ice hockey team, Father & Kids Camping ME, Surf House Dubai & Jaffery Sports Club.  COÉGA Sunwear is also the creator of the successful ‘Drop Your Shorts For Good’ campaign which encourages the donation of swimwear to labourers living and working in the UAE.

My experience with COÉGA Sunwear:

Being a Modest dresser, there are very few options when it comes to swimwear/ sunwear that I can turn to, and even less that I can learn to love. My hunt for modest swimwear, also known as “Burkini”, ended with me being faced with numerous challenges, the biggest of which was comfort. I tried to fit myself into onesie style “Burkinis” that were still too tight and figure hugging for me to walk comfortably in. I tried the mens swim wear, mismatching oversized shirts with leggings. My last purchase was a burkini which was great from the neck down, but the attached one-size head piece was suffocating my brain cells and giving me headaches enough to ruin any trip to the pool that lasted longer than five minutes.

Then last month, I came across COÉGA sunwear. I had already heard of the brand and seen their extensive vibrant range for children, but what I did not realise is that they had something for men and women too. Most importantly, for those women wishing to be more modest.

Swim Trousers, a long sleeved Tunic, a loose Shaela to cover my head and I was good to go! Coming in three colours: Black, Burgandy and Blue Marine Mosaic, the sunwear was just right. I have already worn it on a number of occasions, and I am happy to report that it is very comfortable and light weight material, especially the Shaela on the head. The material is quick to dry and I love that it has the added bonus of UV Protection, that too of a very high factor of 50!

The sunwear is available in UK sizes, so it was easy enough for me to pick what size I wanted, and I love that the design is subtle and chic, compared to some of the horrendous busy and bright patterns I have seen on the market! Thanks to the three colours, you are able to mix and match, depending on which colour you are currently digging.

Having a look through their website, I love that COÉGA offers such a wide range of clothing, and you do not need to limit yourself to just a top and trousers. There is everything from a two piece, skirts, shorts to one piece “Slim-kinis”, even catering for those that prefer 3/4 length trousers. You can also buy COÉGA hats and shoes for added protection. I am sure there are a million variations of putting together your chosen COÉGA sunwear, depending on your style and preference, making it a very unique and tailored brand.

Though the price range is on the higher end, I do believe it is worth every penny because you are paying for the utmost quality, comfort and protection, all of which are huge deciding factors when it comes to choosing sunwear.

I am already contemplating getting COÉGA sunwear for my son too, especially after browsing their spring/summer collection of bright blues and greens, as well as the COÉGA Shoes that should stop him from complaining of sand getting in between his toes when he is at the beach! (Does anyone else’s toddler do that or is it just mine?)
